Planning your 2022 Schedule

As the 2021 season comes to an end it is time to think about rest, recovery and preparing for the 2022 season.

  • When planning a schedule, a true peak in performance can only be maintained for no more than three consecutive tournaments.

  • To allow for peak performance and help minimize the risk of injury, the ideal cycle during the in-season is one to two weeks pre-competition, leading up to no more than three consecutive tournaments, immediately followed by a minimum of three to five days active rest and recovery.

  • To promote perfomance and minimize the risk of injury, exceeding twenty-three tournaments per year is not recommended.

  • For continued training adaptations to take place, variability and progressive overload need to be applied to a training program.

  • When planning yearly schedule key tournaments should be identified to allow peaking.

  • Factors to consider when planning a schedule and training program for the following year are listed below.

Who do you want on your team ?

Next season is quickly approaching which might mean you’re thinking about who you want on your team : coaches, trainers, physios, mental health care providers, etc.

It’s imperative to have a team you trust; a team that respects you. So, as you begin hiring your support team, remember, you’re the boss. And it’s important that you hold and set clear boundaries and expectations for each person you hire.

Last week’s performance weekly outlined an exercise to help you name your top three values, a great first step in clarifying the expectations you hold for each team member. Once you’ve clarified your expectations, here are a few important questions to ask potential coaches / partners / physios etc.
